Rabbi Tamar Grimm smiled warmly as she welcomed the community Sunday to the Jewish Feast-ival 2011 at the Tri-City Jewish Center, Rock Island.
She opened with the Shehecheyanu blessing, a prayer said on special occasions, holidays and for travelers to Israel, the first time they view the city of Jerusalem. “Welcome. Shalom. I love seeing all the people coming to the building and learning about Jewish culture,” she said.
The event featured local Jewish culture with a lively mah-jongg marathon and passport treasure hunt, Israeli cuisine, and exhibitions of the Western Wall, history lessons, krav maga martial arts, music and dance. About 1,500 people attended.
