will a 4 pin to 4 pin cable work without firewire installed?

Q: I'm just wanna know the easiest way to transfer video footage to a computer. My camera and my comp both have 4-pin ports.

A: FireWire is peer-to-peer, meaning that two FireWire cameras can talk to each other without going through a computer.
But for video transfer, moreso for DV tape vcam, the video editing app* captures the video stream from the video cam via firewire cable - in your case, 4-pin vcam connected to 4-pin pc.

I'm very Leary about plugging my 4 pin cable into my Mac Book pro since the cable is ridged for an inch out I'm concerned about snapping it off. If there was a 3 foot, 4 pin, 3.5mm audio cable for the A40's in an L shape that would go flush against the side of my computer and MP3 player I'd buy that rather then risking my other cables.
